To register for GST, the Indian Government conveniently allows taxpayers to access the GST Portal online. After submitting your GST registration application, it typically takes 15 days for processing and registration. In the meantime, you can track your GST registration status online using your ARN number.

What is an ARN Number? 

ARN stands for Application Reference Number, It is a 15-digit code assigned to your GST registration application. It serves as an identifier for tracking the progress of your application and is crucial for the GST status check process.

Once you submit your GST registration application, the GST portal automatically generates the ARN. This number allows you to monitor the status of your application at various stages, from submission to approval / rejection. 

However, if you have submitted your application on the MCA Portal (applicable to Companies and LLPs), you will be given a Service Request Number (SRN). You must keep the ARN or SRN handy while tracking the GST registration status.
